Calculation details
Assumptions and exclusions
This estimate covers one job for a full tax year in England, with the standard Personal Allowance and its income-based taper. It models your selected pension method and loan plan. Other income, taxable benefits, special tax codes, additional allowances and pension annual-allowance tax charges are excluded. Defined-benefit schemes, tapered annual allowances, carry-forward and the money purchase annual allowance need separate advice. Loan balances and final repayments are not capped by this estimate. It is not suitable for directors, Scottish taxpayers or employees above State Pension age. Salary sacrifice must not reduce pay below the applicable minimum wage; check eligibility with your employer. Any later HMRC net-pay pension top-up for low earners is excluded.
Payroll calculates NI per pay period and PAYE using your tax code and pay history. Do not use this annual estimate to reconcile a payslip or file a tax return.
Income Tax bands
The standard Personal Allowance is £12,570.00. It falls by £1 for every £2 of adjusted net income above £100,000.00.
After the allowance, taxable income is charged at 20% on the first £37,700.00, 40% up to £125,140.00, then 45%.
Your estimated Personal Allowance: £12,570.00.
- Basic rate: £26,469.00 × 20% = £5,293.80

Pensions and student loans
Salary sacrifice reduces cash salary, tax, NI and loan earnings. Net pay contributions reduce taxable salary but leave NI and loan earnings unchanged. Relief at source takes 80% of the gross contribution from your pay; the provider adds the remaining 20% to the pension.
For relief at source, the main take-home figure excludes any extra relief you may need to claim from HMRC. A separate estimate includes band extensions and any restored Personal Allowance. It assumes this relief is not already included in your tax code.
Plans 1, 2, 4 and 5 take 9% of earnings above their respective thresholds. A postgraduate loan adds 6% above its own threshold. If you have multiple undergraduate plans, select the lowest threshold. Figures are annual approximations, not pay-period deductions.
Example: £30,000 a year
With no pension or student loan, £17,430 is taxable. Income Tax is £3,486 and estimated NI is £1,394.40. Take-home pay is £25,119.60 a year, equivalent to £2,093.30 a month.
